Lady Eva

Eva kept her husband's amulet as a memento and wore it around her neck all the time. She made a promise to him when he gifted it to her that she would never take it off or let anyone touch it. She was the mother of his two half breed sons Vergil and Dante, which were hard for her to tame sometimes. She loved her sons and would do anything to keep them happy and safe. Eva suffered and was depressed since her husband left her and their family all alone. Her family was regularly attacked by Sparda's enemies and shivered in the thought of losing her family. She had to stay strong in her children's eyes and not show her any of her weaknesses. Her son Dante grew font of his mother and saw the fire that she hid within her.
“Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children.”

Seeds of Love

I’ve been thinking of writing this for so long.. I don’t know if someone else did this before? But I want us to take a look at this picture and the lyrics of Seeds of Love. This lullaby was once sung by Eva to her baby boys’. The first line goes like “ In the field so green and so free, seeds gaze up” and then if you take a look over the picture the front yard of Sparda’s manor has a green field. Then it says “seeds gaze up” I believe that Eva was referencing to her sons’ that’s been playing in the yard. Later the lullaby continues with “ The clouds keep them from the light, And the sky cries white tears of snow.” I believe Eva wants to show us that her kids weren’t always happy, “ The clouds keep them from the light” like the demons made the family stay hidden, away from danger.  ’’But still, the fragile seeds wait long for the sun to shine Dark winter away, come spring.“ But when the danger goes away they are free to walk outside again and play.  Then she says ”And I know they will grow strong.“  she knows her baby seeds will grow strong, even though she wouldn’t be near them.. since they are the sons of Sparda.

Eva’s Gown Aesthetics: The RoseGold Maiden

About Eva’s beautiful gown is one of my favorite outfits in the game. I made a little research on her dress and its details. The texture of the dress makes me believe that’s satin? Or I can be wrong?
Her dress has golden floral details which could be inspired by the Dolce & Gabbana 2012 fall collection. Their collection had the main theme of the black robes of the “Madonna Addolorata (Our Lady of Sorrows), whose cult has spread greatly in the Southern Italy” the statue’s robes are known of being black and decorated with golden floral garlands and frames. Since in Southern Italy, they appreciate her cult so much; it made me believe that Eva could be an Italian.. This could justify the fact of Dante’s love for pizza.

Eva could resemble the “ Lady of Sorrows” since she had difficult times protecting her family and like it’s said by Mrs. Margaret from the Devil May Cry the animated series that Eva “ had some difficult times” when her children were still young and that she was going through depression and suffering.

About her shawl, it’s been crimson red through all the Devil May cry franchise. The color red symbolizes mostly blood, power, passion, and love. Her shawl reminds of Jesus Christ’s red robe that he wore before his crucifixion. In the old ages, red robes were worn only by kings and they symbolize God-given right to rule.

So Eva could have believed in Christianity.. Or at least that’s what I believe from the way she was dressing.

In the intro of Devil May Cry X: The Last Judgement Eva’s hooded figure is found in a praying position and beside her is the visage of her husband Sparda in his demonic form. She could have been praying to god? But it was well known that the people of Fortuna were worshipping “The Legendary Dark Knight” as a god. But I don’t think that his wife Eva was worshipping her husband as a god? I believe that she had her own belief.

Seeds of Love

In the field so green and so free, seeds gaze up.
The clouds keeps them from the light,
And the sky cries white tears of snow.
But still, the fragile seeds wait long for the sun to shine Dark winter away, come spring.
My young seeds once again will look up to the sky, And I know they will grow strong.

Eva's references from the Devil May Cry animated series:

She was first referred by Patty. In the beginning, Patty thought that Eva was Dante’s girlfriend and that Eva was regularly attending on Dante’s “shows”, which Patty wasn’t allowed to watch because she was young. “ So the woman in that picture is coming to your show, then huh?” Later Patty said that her mother was prettier than Dante’s “girlfriend”.
Later on in the series, Dante comes across a demon named Brad and he knows that Dante is a half-breed “ born from the union of a human and a demon” and he asked if Dante’s parents were in love and Dante replies to him with “ Who knows? You always hear stories about the lovers, they look like they were meant for each other, but in their hearts are cold as ice — But I think a lot of those couples truly loved each other deeply inside their hearts” proving that Dante’s parents were deeply in love when they were still alive and together.
Then we see an old lady, later in the series, Mrs. Margaret. She stated to Dante that his mother had some difficult times when Dante was still young, she was going through depression and suffering. Later on the episode, we see that the demon who attacked Sparda’s family wanted Dante’s blood, Sparda’s blood.

About Sparda's Family

Two pictures that show Sparda's family over the years. It's stated from the character creator of the Devil May Cry one, Makoto Tsuchibayashi that Sparda was well known as a count; to all humans.

He was a wealthy man, with a huge manor and therefore little is known about his human wife Eva. She was a beautiful woman who gave birth to his two twin sons, Vergil and Dante. They seemed to be happy together, but Sparda would always leave his family from time to time, leaving them unprotected.
As it is shown in the official family pictures, the whole family seem to like dressing in expensive outfits and their surroundings shows that they have a sympathy for the Victorian/Gothic furniture.
I would like to believe that Sparda with his wife Eva would ran charities and help the ones in need.

My edit of Eva’s picture, from the Devil May Cry 5 art book. I didn’t really like the colours that they gave to her, so I tried to fix them a lil bit by giving her, her original colours that she had in previous games.. I hope everyone likes it? I for sure prefer her wine red shawl and her pitch black dress, but that’s just me..

The day when Sparda’s manor was under attack by Mundus armies, Eva sensed the danger approaching her family. She knew she would not stand a chance of surviving the attack and the only thing she could do was to keep her sons safe.
She rushed to find them by searching the whole house and managed to find only her youngest son, Dante.
She panicked and feared the thought that the demons would reach Vergil before she did.
She hid Dante in a wardrobe where the family kept their personal belongings. The wardrobe was the only safe place she could think of hiding her son and the nearest one to them.
She did not know where her son Vergil was and she had to act fast. Vergil would always run away from home and play alone when he had a fight with his little brother, something that Eva did not appreciate and would always warn him that it wasn’t safe for him to be by his own outside of the house, but he would ignore his mother’s words, with the thought of her loving Dante more than him.
Eva ran outside and saw him, but it was too late for them both.. Or at least for her.
